A quick intro to Azure & Azure Migrate

Azure is Microsoft’s cloud computing platform, which allows your firm access to tremendous computer capabilities while being extremely secure, allowing you to achieve any business goal without having to invest in expensive local equipment. 95% of Fortune 500 companies currently utilize the Azure Platform as part of their IT infrastructure.

As evidenced by the black and orange lines, the shift to the cloud by big commercial clients has enhanced Microsoft growth in recent years, resulting in increased Azure and Office 365 income.

Azure Migrate features tools and services to assist you with the cloud migration evaluation and migration processes. To ensure a successful Azure migration, organizations should employ tried-and-true approaches and tactics. Microsoft offers information on performance and demand changes. By using on-premises resources, you may save the cost of hidden infrastructure.

Benefits of Moving your On-Prem Workloads with Azure Migrate

Multiple Scenarios

Adopting cloud operations-based models on infrastructure as a service (IaaS) technology will enable you to develop in new ways by shifting to Azure. By modernizing with the fully managed platform as a service (PaaS) solution, you’ll also be able to take advantage of additional chances for innovation.

Windows, SQL, and Linux Server workloads, databases, data, web apps, and virtual desktops may all be migrated. Azure Virtual Machines, Azure VMware Solution, Azure App Service, and Azure SQL Database are just a few of the places you may migrate to. VMware, Hyper-V, physical server, and cloud-to-cloud migrations are all handled in a comprehensive manner.

End-to-end visibility

Microsoft or your partner’s guided experience and progress dashboard will lead you through the discovery, evaluation, and migration steps for various business sectors in one unified data repository. With built-in insights and recommendations, you can make the best migration decisions.

Security

Utilize Microsoft’s multi-layered security across physical datacenters, infrastructure, and Azure operations. Take advantage of the cutting-edge security provided by Azure datacenters’ all over the world. Rely on a cloud that is developed with bespoke hardware, has security controls built into the hardware and firmware components, and additional defenses against DDoS attacks. Take advantage of a worldwide network of more than 3,500 cybersecurity specialists that collaborate to help protect companies’ assets and data in Azure.

Diverse capabilities & Save Money

Use free Azure tools like agentless datacenter discovery, Azure readiness analysis, cost estimation, app modernization, and app dependency visualization, or select from a range of integrated partner products for more capabilities. Rapid lift-and-shift migration capabilities are included in your Azure subscription at no extra charge, allowing you to migrate efficiently. Azure Migrate Hub

From infrastructure to apps to data, Azure Migrate serves as a one center for all migration needs and resources. You may just type Azure Migrate into the Azure Portal search field.

The Azure Migrate Hub will then appear as seen below.

You can check the various options from the Azure Migrate Hub. Select the Servers, Databases, and Web Applications option.

You may begin your assessment and migration with the Create Project command.

Since we are migrating Hyper-V Server, select Discover under Migration Goals > Windows, Linux, and SQL Servers > Azure Migrate: Discovery and Assessment. Select Yes, using Hyper-V, in Discover servers > Section of Are your servers virtualized?

The Azure Migrate appliance is a lightweight appliance used by Azure Migrate: Discovery and Assessment/ Migration to find on-premises Hyper-V servers and communicate information and performance statistics to Azure.

You have a few options for deploying the appliance:

Using a downloaded VHD, set up on a Hyper-V server.

Using a PowerShell installer script, install on a Hyper-V or physical server. If you can’t set up a server using a VHD or if you’re in Azure Government, this technique should be utilized.

Create a project key and give it a name for the Azure Migrate appliance you’ll use to discover Hyper-V servers. The name should be alphanumeric and contain no more than 14 characters.

To begin the creation of the appropriate Azure resources, click Generate key. During the generation of resources, do not close the Discover server’s page.

A project key is generated once the Azure resources are successfully created. Make a copy of the key since you’ll need it to finish the appliance’s registration during setup.
